Contributing Content Overview

This Help - Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) item provides an overview on how this site's content items are added and edited. Participating bridge clubs assign contributing roles to one or more of their members.

To contribute content all you need is to:

  • Be registered as an author member on the website - the This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. will do this when you are nominated by your bridge club
  • Login to the site using the Login/Logout link on the Home Menu (top left)
  • Submit a content item (an event or item) in the appropriate category - following the simple guide that appears when you are logged in.

Important to the content contribution process is understanding which content type and category the contribution belongs:

  • Club Venues - Any information that relates to the venue or to all the sessions that occur at that venue (such as facilities and normal session costs) are best stored in the Event Venue category. This is then appended to all the events at that venue, and only needs to be input and maintained once. See Editing Club Venue for more information.
  • Club Events - Any information that relates to a particular event or session (such as time and date and playing standard) are best stored in the Event category. This includes lessons and different types of events such as supervised sessions and special events. Events display automatically in the What's On menu and are linked to the Venue information. See Submitting an Event for more information.
  • Club Results - This category is ideal for showing your session and special event results to your members. In most cases we recommend using the results display service offered by Milica Pty Ltd - this provides a range of results information that players find very useful. See Publishing Event Results for more information.
  • Club News - This category for articles allows topical club items to be listed in publishing date order with the most recent at the top of the page. This is ideal for club newsletters or special results articles or blog items. See Submitting an Article for more information.
  • Club About - This category allows useful reference material to be maintained as a separate club menu item called About Us. This may be used for example for a Club player directory or supplementary regulations or a membership application form. See Submitting an Article for more information.

Some readers might find a further discussion of the difference between venues, events and articles useful:

venue has a simple but structured format - including for example address details and related map as well as a free-format description field to capture all information that is common to that venue. This would include information about parking, public transport, access, food and drink facilities, and also the regular costs and other common details of sessions at the venue. This venue information is automatically appended to all events linked to that venue.

Events are used for all time/date related information such as regular and special events, lessons etc. This site displays events in a number of attractive formats and automatically archives expired events and creates the next event in a repeating series. An event has a simple but structured format - including for example date and time and a link to a venue, as well as a free-format description field to capture all the information specific to this event. Remember that venue specific information does not need to be included as the Venue information will be automatically appended.

Articles are general purpose flexible items and appropriate for any contributed information that is not related to a venue or an event. An article can be a simple text item or can also include links to other sites or to images and files that are uploaded to the site. This flexible format can be used for general and topical information from a bridge club. Articles can be submitted to be available only after an embargo date and/or before an expiry date. The latter is useful for information that becomes irrelevant after a certain date.

Articles input or uploaded to this site can include original articles or material that has been prepared for other purposes, such as event fliers, newsletters, "how to" articles or learning pieces, provided that you hold the copyright or confirm with the copyright holder that they permit the material to be published on this site. If the material has already been published on the internet it may often be easier simply to create an item with a link to that internet site.
